I’m taking a wee break from the painting to knit. Yes indeed, got to let the tight muscles of my upper back and shoulders rest a bit and enjoying a stay-cation for a few days. Right now I plan on wearing the shawl I’m making (pictured here beside some chamomile tea) to the closing reception of my present exhibition.
Reminder for those who are in the area: the closing reception is Friday, October, 28th 5 – 6:30 at Runnel’s Gallery.

To commemorate the very last day of summer I thought I’d post a summer-dinner painting.
Here is a table spread our friends laid for us one summer evening in their Toronto backyard… fond memories of the evening still linger.

I’ve decided to try and refrain from painting on weekends to give my body a rest. I will share with you on those few days a week my more elementary practice of sketching. You’ll see more experiments, more works in progress and more simple observance or records of the life around me…
Blueberry Bagel at the Do Drop In, graphite in sketchbook
This first sketch is a true testament to my dedication. You cannot imagine how much I wanted to scarf the remainder of this blueberry bagel with cream cheese. But I resisted… just long enough to record it and then it was gone. Inhaled like kibble at a labrador’s schnoz.

This is the exterior of the cafe where said blueberry bagel was consumed with gusto. If it seems a little hastily recorded, it is because the morning was quickly heating up and I was eager to retreat to the air conditioning and rest my eyes from the bright sun of a New Mexico morning.

This light sketch was done in just a few minutes when this man grabbed a paper and sat down to wait for his sandwich “to go”.
Here’s a fun little series of edibles. Clockwise from top left: wine, tea time, hot sauces and mango. Each painting measures 2.5 x 3.5 inches and framed in a wee black frame.

I just got back from my wedding (insert grin here) and am soon to embark on some travels so I thought I’d try to get a few posts in before the departure! It is a busy time but I have not forgotten about this blog! You can expect at least a few sketches from time to time over the next month and regular posting will resume in June.
Here are some fragile flowers that fell from their bouquet that I couldn’t bear to throw out. They continue to live cheerily in a wine glass, and now also on this canvas:
